Great staff training but lacks trust in field management decisions.

    I worked at The Gap

    Pros

In depth staff training and development, not only for the front line staff but management development, as well. The print resources for product knowledge training is always very helpful, including for managers. Growth potential within the company is a positive as well. The employee discount is a plus.

    Cons

The erratic changes, including, but not limited to changes in field management structure, price changes, merchandising changes that conflict what is best for the retail location. Exceptionally long work hours and resistance to grant earned vacation time.
Also that the company has a less than desirable opinion from environmental groups and human rights organizations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to and trust your Field Management Teams, including store level management. Store visits should be positive, not a fear-based approach.
