I worked at The Home Depot

    Pros

Great values system in place to take care of and guide the associates actions in the company.
Compensation package outstanding with opportunities to bonus at all levels. Associates were a blast to work with and most were motivated to perform at a high level.

    Cons

Store management very inconsistent in the application of standards between managers. My manager incapable of leading effectively as did not ever understand the difference between leading and managing. Promotions based more on political connections and having a "sponsor" than on your ability to lead effectively and make your numbers. In other words talked a good game but failed to walk the walk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to really listen to the associates, Department heads and Assist Managers about what is going on in the stores. Too many expectations. In fact there are in place many mutually exclusive necessary conditions. This means that you have generated a system that MUST break the RULES in order to accomplish the goals set out. This leads to dissatisfaction, stalemate, lack of innovation and general morale decline. Not a recipe for ongoing success.
