Former Employee - Kitchen Designer in Washington, DC
Former Employee - Kitchen Designer in Washington, DC

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Was able to meet lots of great people and use my degree in architecture in between jobs. Learned a lot about kitchen and bath design which probably wouldn't have happened had I not taken this position.

    Cons

Everything about the position (from a management perspective) is purely sales driven. There is no comission yet cabinet vendors expect you to sale their product above everyone else's. Management often don't know how to correctly manage or help the Kitchen Designers because they usually have no design experience and/or haven't worked in the department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have aspiring managers actually work in the department(s) that they aspire to manage. Get rid of the micro-management mentality and stop talking down to employees.
