Low pay, no benefits. Company merit policies create unhealthy competition on the selling floor.

I worked at The North Face part-time (less than a year)

The discount. Learning about the product.

It is bonus and performance based merit, so co-workers are very territorial about customers. I worked with a customer for over an hour and had another employee come up to me, screaming that I stole her customer. Some others are just snakes and ring sales up for themselves.

There was a lot of customer profiling going on, which felt racist to me. We were told to communicate with each other via walkie-talkie about customers coming into the store that didn't look like the "typical" customer (e.g., white, affluent).

The full-time sales and management team felt very clique-y and it seemed like there was some favoritism.

There were no apparent opportunities for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time in the stores to see what is really going on. Pay your people more for crying out loud! You're selling $500 technical jackets! Maybe then you'll have some people who are smart enough to know the products and not act like a bunch of animals, fighting over customers.
