I worked at The University of Massachusetts Amherst part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Much support provided to students working in summer programs. The location is at a familiar place and the responsibilities are clearly laid out. There is always a possibility to continue after the term has ended, and the flexibility allows students to focus on their studies while working to support themselves.

    Cons

The competitive and rewarding jobs only last a short term throughout the year. Year-long jobs are plenty but with the massive workforce available the pay rate is usually the state minimum.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should listen to the underpaid graduate and undergraduate students and provide more accommodation for them, as they are what keeps everything moving. The possibility of promotion or rewarding employee loyalty should also be discussed. At times it seems as if favorites are played, and those who deserve a raise (based on time spent working at the workplace) are often not rewarded.
