I have been working at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very good place to make a postdoc, it will put you in the world map of nuclear physics, you will learn and enjoy a lot. The atmosphere is great, welcoming, serious and respectful. They also take a lot of care of diversity/integration issues, I believe everybody feels lucky to work there.

    Cons

Newport News is not the most enjoyable city in the world, is not even a city, just a suburban aglomerate, still it is worth it; besides, it can get much worse in US. All in all the place is OK.

Note: Take care not to walk drunk, they arrest people for drunkness even if they are not driving.

Salary is not great, but that is normal in science, we are not there for the money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Could you please increase the salaries for non-staff scientists? The general feeling is that the system uses us, that it would have been more clever to work in the industry. And many actually leave.
