    As a Field Rep, you write your own ticket. Work hard, get paid more. When you need time for family or community-based priorities, you can do it without filling out a myriad of forms and being a slave to a clock. You are able to interact with some amazing clients and know that you are helping them towards financial security in what is a very insecure world. Remember that simple axiom, and it's the best job in the world.


    The field is over-staffed with middle management. There's Managing Partners, there's Partners, there's Field Supervision, there's Recruiters, there's even a Chief of Staff in at least one region. These are all corporate employees, and the largest percentage of them were only mediocre as Field Reps. Yet they are the one's training the new people. How much sense does that make? Comp system is a joke - it takes an engineer to understand it, and if you don't, you're told that there's something wrong with you. If you don't know what you're getting paid from the time you walk out your door to the time you get into your car, it's too complicated. Comp system overly skewed to selling "stuff" - i.e. more life insurance, more disability insurance, more Long Term Care insurance, more fixed and immediate annuities with less risk to the company. The company always wants you to do the "right thing for the client," yet skews the comp towards doing what's right for their bottom line. But, do what's right for them anyway - which is conversely a "pro." Training is iffy at best; as a new rep it's basically sink or swim. Once you survive your first three years, you'll make it. Don't expect much support from the management team of mediocrity, and you'll do just fine. Remember this - let the corporate office and their employees they post around the country say what they want - go run your business, do the right thing for the client, and you'll be rewarded. Just nod and smile when the corporate types get on their little kicks. They have not much else to do but to do that.
