I have been working at Thumbtack as a contractor for less than a year

I signed up to be an 'Artist' on being new to the Atlanta area. I was able to post photos of my work, brief job descriptions and get exposure to people looking to hire individuals with my skills. There is no monthly charge and the site is user friendly and easy to update and maintain. Great exposure if you have referrals from previous customers. If your quote does not get viewed, you get your tokens refunded.

When you get an email that a customer is looking for a quote, you find out that you have to pay $ to have your quote submitted to them. Apparently, you buy tokens, and quotes cost between 3 to 4 tokens. Token value changes according to the amount you buy. The more you buy, the cheaper they are. Tokens can range from $1.37 to $1.97 each. Average quote will cost you 3 to 4 tokens. A small investment to get a paying gig or job through the service. However, if you don't have referrals on the site, people typically don't hire you. You can shell out $20 in quotes and not get hired, thus not getting any referrals...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow new comers to have 3 free quotes before charging them... Suggest ways they can get "reviewed" if they do not have any customers using their service. Allow customers to receive more than 5 quotes per request. Big Suggestion:
Add a button on profiles to (view quote requests) I get them in my email, but when I log onto the site, I can't find anywhere to "See who's requesting a quote" or respond to quote, I've only been able to do it through my email?
    this was puzzling for me...
