Former Employee - Engineering Intern in North Canton, OH

I worked at Timken as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

To sum it all up in a broad perspective, they do basically everything right for an internship program:
-Extremely nice and affordable housing arrangements
-Social events organized and budgeted (including Indians game)
-Workshops for career growth (resume workshop, interviewing workshop, executive panels, etc.)
-First dibs at interviewing for entry-level rotational development programs (Finance, Sales Engineering, etc.)

    Cons

-North Canton is a nice suburb, but not for everyone
-Depending on your manager you may or may not have a lot of work assigned to you, you really have to be a go-getter and find work to do if you want to get the most of the experience, projects may have timelines which are far in the future, so difficult to say you created value or have solid deliverables by the end of the internship
-It's not as easy to get hired full-time as many other companies as an intern. In my opinion, they have a disproportionately large number of interns compared to total number of employees, and thus getting a full time offer after an internship is far from guaranteed, even for the most productive and hard working interns

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Make sure interns are assigned projects which can be completed in a summer's time
-Make it easier for interns to be given offers for full-time employment, even if they don't get a rotational development program
