I worked at Todd McFarlane Productions full-time (More than 3 years)
Product line is fun, and well respected by target audience. Free Comics! For those people that love to name drop, working for Todd McFarlane can get you new friends that think, somehow, that he will make their dreams come true. Its more fun to say you work there, than say, Waste Management, or Arby's
The soul and energy of the company peaked in the early 90's, and have been on steady decline without new ideas or initiative. Key employees have survived by becoming sacred cow's to the owner. If you are not in this circle, no matter what you do, you will not achieve it. Ownership is not aggressive enough to search for new income opportunities, instead focusing on the tried and true, which has only bought declining revenue and sales, New ideas are welcomed, but not executed, being canned at the last moment when hard dollars need to be spent.
Advice to Management
So some soul searching. The market has changed since those early hey-days when it was innovative and unique. Now its a declining market, and everyone, including management knows this. Creativity and world building is what made this company thrive, and if anyone can do it, the ownership of the company should have that ability to create a universe that is fresh and unique, and an alternative to the other super hero dominated IP in the entertainment space today.
