I worked at Torrey Pines Institute full-time (More than 3 years)
Very easy work, relatively high pay for said work. Opportunity to interact with lots of non-American cultures. Low traffic area, lots of space, lots of people had two-monitors, which is a nice perk. Depending on the lab, work environment was very laid back (too much so at times).
Ridiculously high turnover amongst the employees who interacted with upper management. Upper management seems lost; constantly running to the state to get money to keep them afloat. Just hit the news that they're looking to mortgage or even sell their <7-year old building. They're losing PI's fairly rapidly now--seems to be in a death spiral.
Advice to Management
Too little too late for advice, I fear.
