I worked at Total Quality Logistics full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you somehow manage to become a management favorite, you might get handed the business you need to be successful. This is a heavily saturated market regardless of what they tell you and it is extremely difficult to find new business. I say this with the least amount of bitterness as possible, as I was once close with management and saw how other people were treated.

    Cons

You are not just encouraged, but essentially forced to work 50-60 hour weeks early on with no additional compensation, including Saturdays (they actually just lost a class action law suit because of this). As I mentioned, management chooses who will succeed and if you end up on the wrong end of things, consider yourself a one man (or woman) team because you will get no help from them. The commission system forces you to pay your base salary in sales 4 times over (yes 4 times) before you can receive anything on top of the $35k/year. Oh, and only 3% of employees ever reach paid commission (facts from TQL). Even commissioned brokers must keep meticulous accounting because our payroll department has short payed them by hundreds of dollars on multiple occasions. Be prepared to do everything yourself for this company, as they only supply you with the software, but you must track down AR, manage all of your customers, book and supervisor all loads, essentially run your own business. In summation, to give you an idea of how quickly people are catching on to this place (94% turnover in the first year), I worked at a satellite office that was pulling in employees to work as assistants for our headquarters because they have dried up the labor pool in Cincinnati and can no longer find people there to work for them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the turnover and start building long lasting employees. I worked in an office where we had one person out of 60 there for more than 5 years. Customers are getting fed up of new representatives. Time to look at that business model again.
