Former Employee - PT Assistant Manager in Salt Lake City, UT

I worked at Tuesday Morning part-time (less than an year)

I had a great store manager who taught me everything I need to know
Weekly conference calls specifically designed for assistant managers
Can switch between task and customer service
    Loved my coworkers

District manager was not likable, was unfair to employees she didn't like and gave special treatment to ones she did
Only keyholders/management can do returns, so I would get called away frequently from my work to do something I feel any associate should be able to do unless it is a specialized return that needs management approval
The expectations for my store were too high considering how small and busy a location we were, we would often be compared to stores much larger and much less busy and be criticized for unorganized personal space and cleanliness
Everything falls apart if one person calls in saying they can't make it or are stuck in traffic
    Very high turnover rate
Our mop bucket was extremely dirty and we didn't have the spare time to clean it, but we would be reprimanded if we didn't mop every night, so we just did it and spread slime everywhere
Store associates constantly complained about too few hours and then I always noticed we constantly needed more people on duty

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow longer hours, allow store associates to do regular returns, have every employee have a one-on-one with the district manager. I remember I was having trouble once and my district manager came in and had a one-on-one with me in the office. I have to say, in those 15-20 min I absolutely loved her. I got to hear her end of the story and I got to express my concerns and issues. I believe every employee should have that opportunity, because it is them who know what your store really needs. They look at something other than numbers, they see the people and the environment. They are your most important and worthwhile asset.
