I have been working at U.S. Government Accountability Office full-time (More than 8 years)

-Great work-life balance in terms of alternative work schedules, telework, and generally working a 40 hour week -Ability to study a wide range of issues across government -There's flexibility within and across teams to be a generalist or become an expert in a particular area -GAO has a great reputation and is highly respected inside the Beltway

-Significant paperwork and internal documentation requirements. It's important to the work but it can become maddening at times -Many days are spent inside the office writing/reading or in internal meetings. If you're somebody who needs variety or more external communication, it may not be the best fit
