    Pros

UMBFC is a generally warm and friendly place. Some business units are known for not being as friendly (Scout Investments, for example). Work/life balance is good. The facilities are well maintained and very clean.

    Cons

Something is fishy at UMBFC. The turnover is the highest I have ever seen. Quits are high. A surprising share of hires quite within about a year. They join and find a dysfunctional culture, and move on. Layoffs and staff reductions are unusually high, too. In some areas, people are let go very quickly and from positions where it is too soon to even tell if they are performing. The hiring managers must not know what they want and not be doing what they should in interviewing and assessing talent, and they must not be doing adequate coaching once the hire has joined.

Also fishy is the treatment of women. Once people join, they can easily see that women are maybe 10% of the senior executives, but account for something like 25% or more of layoffs of senior executives.

Technology is outdated. Benefits for some business units lag their industry.

    Advice to Management

This fish stinks from the head. The Executive Management Team (usually called the EMT) should be called the Emergency Management Team. There is no strategy. They just keep reorganizing and cutting staff and costs to look like they are doing something to grow earnings.
