I worked at UNM Health Sciences Center full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Some staff members are great wok have been there a long time. If your supervisor is great and trains you, you will do fine. Be prepared if you work directly for a faculty member, particularly those on the ambulatory side. Winter break is nice.

    Cons

Some staff members are great wok have been there a long time. If your supervisor is great and trains you, you will do fine. Be prepared if you work directly for a faculty member, particularly those on the ambulatory side. Extremely unprofessional and will expect you to wait on them hand and foot. I felt it would be a great learning experience but I was wrong. The benefits were not worth compromising my sanity. Also if you are exempt be prepared to be reminded constantly that you are, yet be treated like you are hourly when it comes to leave. Parking is always an issue and expensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Teach your docs how to manage not dictate. You drive away super employees by how you treat them. Making decisions based on emotions is unprofessional and dangerous. Don't expect people to be slaves to faculty, they are no better than staff.
