    I have been working at URS Corporation, an AECOM company full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Interesting people - many trying to add value. URS is consistently ranked as a top performer in the Architecture & Engineering and in the Federal Government Services industry segments, so fairly steady in-flux of new client contracts coming in and as a result, lots of internal lateral mobility opportunities due to steady large number of new job openings. Also offers a fair amount of paid training opportunities, internal and external. Able to work from home periodically, which is very helpful to work-life balance. Opportunities for promotion vary depending on what division and department you're in, but in general, promotions are available for those who prove themselves over time.

    Cons

    No Integrated Talent Management System - separate HR groups in each of the company divisions. So as old contracts end and new ones begin, difficult to see where the talent currently resides in the company and where it is needed. So, over the past 14 months there have been a series of RIFs, affecting both indirect and direct charge employees (although some of these RIFs are the result of the company's stated goal to retire debt from recent acquisitions. Hiring managers need to do better in hiring - for example, they often hire people who have the skills but whose personality prevents productivity in a group and they often write job opening descriptions that sound very appealing (authority+responsibility) but offer a lower than market salary and then the new hire has the responsibility but no authority.
