Current Employee - Operations Officer in Fort Leavenworth, KS

I have been working at US Army full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Leadership training and experience, free health care, retirement package, and educational opportunities. There are opportunities for certifications that translate to civilian fields.

    Cons

A lot of travel/time away from home, potentially life-threatening danger. In the current economic times the prognosis for mid-level management is not great and there is uncertainty as to the future budget for the military, which could effect training and operational funding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure there is a balance between work and home life for all Soldiers. In order to survive as an institution the armed forces must do a better job of disciplining senior level officers when they commit offenses that would result in the termination of more junior employees.
