I worked at US Army full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Advancement, you could start at the bottom and work you way up to the middle management in less than 10 years if you applied yourself. If you had college it would speed up the advancement. The people, most of the people were good people coming from all walks of life and accomplishing a lot with so few. Every federal holiday was a 4 day weekend. How many jobs are out there for 17 year olds that are salary, offer full medical and dental, offer on the job training, and from the first year offer 30 days paid vacation.

    Cons

Sometimes you would have overbearing leadership that really wasn't worthy of the position, in most cases it was the ones that advanced in promotions too quickly and were not ready for the new position or would feel that because their previous leadership taught them bad habits that the bad habits or mistreatment was a normal occurrence. The long hours sometimes. Its one job you cannot just quit or get fired unless you really really messed up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For those of you that have advanced very quickly kudos for you but did you really know your new position? Listen to your subordinates, and treat everyone with the same dignity and respect you desire not deserve due to position.
