I have been working at US Navy

    Pros

Have enjoyed leadership opportunities, excellent compensation and benefits, and the opportunities for travel and experiences likely not achievable outside the military. Have greatly benefitted from educational opportunities leading to advanced degrees.

    Cons

Many long hours and overseas ship deployments over a 20+ year career. Billets at operational commands exact a high toll on family time while home/inport and much time while away at sea and/or on deployment. Military culture nowadays is doing more with much less moving to doing less with less as continual budget cuts and fiscal challenges affect military readiness across nearly all aspects of the mission.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure military benefits (retirement pay, commissary privileges) stay intact despite the fiscal challenges to ensure a high quality all-volunteer force.
