I have been working at US Secret Service full-time for more than 8 yearsPros
The pay is decent and you get to travel to some great places.Cons
Terrible leadership. Supervisors are only concerned with their next promotion and could care less about taking care of their employees. I would estimate over 50% of the agents are actively seeking employment elsewhere. The good agents leave and then you are left with the bottom of the barrel that end up being promoted solely based on time in and not merit.
Do you enjoy when your bosses play favorites and show preferential treatment? Then this is the job for you!! Literally everything within this agency is about who you know. If a supervisor likes you (even though you produce no "stats") you will get everything you want. However, if you question idiotic policies and point out ways to make the agency better, you will be labeled a disgruntled agent and treated poorly.
Do you like having no control of your career and being lied to? Then this is the job for you!! The agency could care less about where you would like to live and raise a family. They want you to live/work for a minimum of 12-14 years before you ever have the possibility of getting to a location of your choice. That is unless you are one of their "boys" then you will have your choice of wherever you want to go. They will even ask you for your "preferences" (places to live) but it doesn't matter because in reality your preferences are whatever they want to make them. (The agency motto is "worthy of trust and confidence" which is an absolute joke.)
Do you enjoy working for free? Then this is the job for you!! Periodically, you will work 12-14 hours and get paid for 10. Then, when you ask if they can amend the schedule to reflect the hours that you worked, they will tell you, "sorry, the schedule was submitted on Friday." Apparently, the schedules are submitted on something so unique that you would need to borrow Marty McFly's DeLorean time machine in order to submit a correct copy. Or, if you are really lucky, they will flex your days off. You will get to have a Tuesday and Friday off one week and then the next week you will get Monday and Thursday off. It's really great for planning vacations and family events... Again, this agency REALLY cares about you and your family.
Other than that, this is a great agency to work for...Advice to ManagementAdvice
The agency is toxic. The morale is at an all time low, yet, you do nothing about it. There is absolutely no incentive to do any work for this agency because you will move people wherever you want, whenever you want, and provide no explanation. You have sucked out any motivation to remain employed with this agency. Congratulations.
