    Good benefits - onsite gym, wellness programs, education reimbursement Debt free (or nearly so) company. They do manage their bottom-line pretty well.


    Nepotism abounds, both internally and externally (externally meaning when it comes to vendor preference). When hiring an outside company to do work, its more about who you know than if you are actually qualified to do the specific work being asked. One project was outsourced to a company that one of the C-level execs used to do business with, and that external company had no experience with the platform used for the product to be developed. The vendor in turn sub-contracted it out to yet someone else. Missed the target launch date by a mile. Many decisions are made in a vacuum with no input from the the people in the trenches Major projects get started, then shelved a quarter of they way through, then restarted months later requiring a lot of already completed tasks to be redone. Rinse and repeat. Many in management have MBA degrees from the University of Phoenix (or similar) for-profit schools just so they qualify to be management. Hint: a specific degree shouldn't be the main criteria for promotions. A few employees I know have MBAs from nationally ranked business schools and it's often apparent - they are much better at managing their teams and projects than the others. For compensation, the emphasis seems to always be on "salary surveys" and how compensation is similar to what the averages on these salary surveys are. This keeps salaries low - companies have a vested interest is low-balling salary stats in surveys to keep the average low. Makes it seem their employees are well paid . Not a lot of career growth unless you want to move into management. This is somewhat expected at small-ish companies, so not really a con of USANA specifically.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the people in the trenches. They often have a better view of where the technology is than you do. Let the company be driven by those within, not by some product pushed by some vendor who is buddies with someone in upper management. Also learn what it means to complete projects rather than getting half way through and then deciding to completely change direction, only to come back to the old direction months later.
