Former Employee - Contract Manager in Albuquerque, NM
Former Employee - Contract Manager in Albuquerque, NM

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

My colleagues were the best part about working at UHC.

    Cons

Management is incredibly disconnected. Leadership lives in Colorado and has no idea what is going on in New Mexico. This company is so huge and has many parts, no one knows how it all works together, which makes it very hard to work efficiently in Network Management. While there may be some people in management who know how to connect all the working parts. They are so understaffed that there is never enough time to learn anything. It's go go go. You can never stop and become familiar with anything. Even the on ramp process is rushed and then you are expected to know how to do your job because you "learned it all" via their online classes.

If you are Network Manager, you will get paid hourly. Which is a pain to deal with and at this point in one's career its unheard of. The Pro to this is that you can make overtime but you are killing yourself.
If you are Senior Network Manager, you will get paid salary.

Because of the size of the company and their lack of budgeting, there are always lay-offs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time with your employees and listen to them, really listen.
