I have been working at UnitedHealth Group

Good compensation, flexibility, good benefits including a fair amount of vacation days compared to most companies

I worked in the Medicare department. The leadership was lacking and they promoted people not based on merit, but based on "I'll do whatever you tell me to do even if it doesn't produce results." No room for creativity- everything had to be done the way it was done years before even if it wasn't going to work (compensation had a production component relying on the Independent Agents that worked in your hierarchy but not for the company so it affected us in the pocket directly when they chose to produce for a different company). They expected you to work harder, not smarter and not have a work/life balance. Made the job harder than it really was. The insane stress caused me to go on medication and I considered suing for a hostile work environment- I believe it was just the management in my area that caused all these issues for us because our colleagues in other states loved their jobs and bosses (this review may be strictly negative because of the location and not because of the company). In our area, our Agents knew that upper management was clueless to what worked and what didn't in the field. While they loved us, we understood they had to make money even if it was producing for another company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your subordinate's ideas as they have the best intentions for the company. It's a team looking to do better. Listen to any complaints that arise and work together to find a solution. Promote the best with the best ideas- not someone who has no idea what they're doing.

    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
