The Grass is Greener outside of UHG

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 5 years)

UHG has some good benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, Stock purchase). Time off grant is good. Benefits start the first of the month after start. Ability to promote from within.

UHG is not where you go to have a career. It's where you go to get experience then leave before you get complacent. Organization is constantly about cutting costs however and where-ever they can. Key planning areas have insufficient staff to be effective and time constraints that are always cut to exact moment. If one thing doesn't go as planned then everything is in chaos and poorly executed. Work/Home balance is a joke, except for execs who take time when they like but communicate to their reports that "they can't take time as it's too busy". Lay-off' or displacement is a common occurrence. Too many are supervising teams that they aren't equipped to lead and their leadership support is many times fragmented to the point of just being a name on an org chart, rather than a actual leader.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Post Dr McGuire the organization has dissolved into chaos with most not looking to stay. Yes UHG is big, but it is also cold, sterile, and heartless. I just turned in my resignation. When the major focus is doing it cheap, instead of first doing it right and then finding ways to reduce the cost means processes, policies, etc. are just words on a page. Nurses already avoid going to UHG as a employer because of this.
