    I worked at UnitedHealth Group

    Pros

If you have nowhere else to go

    Cons

    - No innovation, although there is lot of talk about it.
    - Dull atmosphere that does not foster teamwork, no time or dollars set aside for anything but work.
    - If you have not been there 10 or more years & don't know the managers from childhood so to say, you are screwed. Or you have to be a major brown noser with a talent for playing politics. Worst favoritism I have ever experienced.
    - Poor pay & very measly raises, even if you are outstanding.
    - Poor performers are never fired or put on a performance improvement plan. They just stay there or get circulated between teams.
    - Employee satisfaction surveys are done but no feedback or changes after that. These are some kind of eye wash. It does help vent, but that's all.
    - No physical HR presence. It is a HR help line which works like customer service with long hold times and multiple voice inputs before you get someone to talk to. And that someone most likely cannot help. So if you have any issues with your manager, you are screwed. You have nowhere to go but out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace large chunk of upper management with new blood. Get the dinosaurs that only work towards keeping their jobs secure, out. I have seen many smart folks leave within a year or two. The smart / bubbly one's that for some reason stick on, slowly get with the program and become dull.
