    I worked at UnitedHealth Group

If you contribute to the bottomline of the organization, then you are likely to receive reasonable compensation. For example, my combination of the PMP certification and the ability to drive projects to completion - convinced my direct manager to increase my salary and to submit my name for an annual bonus even though I was part of the PacifiCare acquisition.

Contractors often receive more advance notice (2 weeks) than regular employees (usually limited to 1 week) in regards to staff reductions.
Bonus and merit increases are limited to the top tier employees so it is a highly competitive work environment.
Most legacy Pacificare employees are very worried about their jobs. The former PacifiCare CIO left the organization in May 2009 and it is a resource-constrained environment for the PacifiCare IT employees.
The organization includes highly educated and talented individuals, but they often do not have the support to do the right thing - employees are given their marching orders which are often counterproductive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in retention and recruitment of the legacy PacifiCare employees - this company relies way to much on the Connecticut and Minnesota employees.
