I have been working at University of Chicago full-time (more than 5 years)

Many departments stand by their students at every turn - in math, we get a year's guidance before we teach independently, and I can't name a reasonable request I've made of the department that was denied.

Central administration is... highly politicized/balkanized. Most of the people in it are good, but you're bounced from one person to another when the system's working - and when it's not, you're stuck talking to someone who (even if they seem competent) is probably deceiving you (or themselves) about what they can actually accomplish.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication, communication, communication - get the different groups talking to each other! I know you're all busy, but at the moment it takes days to figure out where to turn to get something done - and if you get misdirected to someone who "can handle it all", you get stuck in limbo for months.

    Neutral Outlook
