Former Employee - Student Worker in Storrs, CT
Former Employee - Student Worker in Storrs, CT

I worked at University of Connecticut part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

As a student worker, the department I worked for really held the "school first" mentality. Always flexible and looking to build a solid schedule around my coursework and school activities. Full-time workers were knowledgeable and extremely supportive to the student staff. Great way to make connections within the school and learn a lot of the inner workings of the university structure. Solid compensation with good raises while employed. Great perks such as lunches, speakers, advice from professionals, and a casual, friendly culture (matches the college culture well).

    Cons

University hierarchy and bureaucracy always felt like it was getting in the way. It felt like things were fairly slow to change. It technically is a state job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great school first approach to student employment. Allow ideas to get more than just an agreeing nod.
