Not a bad experience if you work with an advisor who works on a state of the art research project.

Current Employee - Research Assistant in Chicago, IL
Current Employee - Research Assistant in Chicago, IL

I have been working at University of Illinois at Chicago full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a small school near downtown Chicago. If you like to work in small groups under not so much pressure, it might suit you.

    Cons

Salaries are not enough for living in a mega city like Chicago. Small school/department, not so many great advisors in college of engineering (especially CME department). Most of the research projects are not state of the art. Some faculty members are not professional in their behavior showing no respect for grad students.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to hire some talented people for the tenure track positions. Develop team work culture and teach your faculty members that profanity and judging with no evidence are huge crimes in the US.
