I have been working at University of Western Australia full-time (More than 3 years)

Ok pay Good super plan Fairly flexible Really lovely grounds

clueless executive team who employ experts to provide best practice advice which they then ignore. Run by academics who have no real world management skill, leading to unclear direction, zero coordination and stress for the staff trying to fix symptoms rather than be empowered to address root causes of issues. Treatment of professional staff by academics is horrendous and bullying rife, this behaviour is modelled by the executive. There is a real culture of blame here which means many staff won't try anything new for fear of being bullied. I would not recommend uwa as a place to work.

    Advice to Management

have experienced professional exec members in charge of non academic matters, not academics. Listen to the advice of the experts you employ, your ideas are not necessarily better just because you have a PhD in some unrelated subject. Also stop the poor treatment of staff and stamp out the blame culture, the university cannot move forward if staff are afraid to try.
