The administration is incompetent and can't be trusted

I have been working at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good labs for science students and researchers. Labs here compare to some of the best research institutions. The faculty and students are hard-working and fantastic.

    Cons

The administration is incompetent. We have gone through three presidents in four years, with the last one having "resigned" suddenly in the middle of the year. Though the 20-30% decline in enrollment over the last four years is due, in part, to new competition in the area and a decrease in the overall area student population, mismanagement by the administration has so magnified the problem that it is very possible that this school may not be able to survive another ten years. There have not been any raises in six years, and approximately 8% of the tenured or tenure track faculty has left over the last three years. The administration claims to have a policy of transparency and non-retribution, but individuals who do speak up sometimes find themselves without a job. As one of the other reviewers said, "If their lips are moving you know they're lying."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hit and lower the tuition. Only that, plus building to new, long-promised dorms, can dig us out of this hole. Try being genuinely honest and open. A serious effort needs to be made to change the culture. So far that has not been done.

    Negative Outlook
