Overall, VMware is a good company to intern for, but depending on your team, your millage will vary.

I have been working at VMware

    Pros

Standard technical company perks (free drinks, free snacks, an espresso machine, foosball, ping-pong, etc.). I've interned twice and both of my mentors were great about making sure my project was actually accomplishing something. IT is relatively lax (you get root on your machine and can use whatever OS you'd like). As long as you make it to meetings and get things done, hours are completely flexible.

    Cons

Interns can't get remote VPN access. Set up is a painful process. Payroll and parts of HR are barely competent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have workstations ready for people when they arrive. Little things like getting a second monitor or getting perforce access shouldn't take a week.
