    I worked at VSP Vision Care full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    The people I worked with (peers, not supervisors) were terrific.

    Cons

    Extremely high stress work environment, excessive micromanagement, no opportunities for career advancement out of customer service, pay not sufficient for the knowledge and skill level required for the job, benefits cost more and cover less every year, very minimal annual pay raise percentages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat customer service employees as employees are treated in other departments, have clearly available paths and opportunities for career advancement, including positions in departments in other areas of the company, not just customer service or claims. Originally the company focus was clearly on quality customer service, but shifted to getting customers on and off the phone as quickly as possible, at the expense of providing accurate answers, first call resolution and superior quality service.
