    The potential is there but....

    Current Employee - Territory Manager
    Current Employee - Territory Manager

I have been working at Valspar full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Company car, bonus plan, benefits still available (as long as Obamacare doesn't creep in), stock options, 401k, $10 a day towards lunch, flexible schedule. The other TM's are usually great. Valspar makes a great product for the most part. You don't have to go to the same office or cubicle day in and day out. Sales calls get you out of the confines of the stores and you meet some great people on some of them. Lots of opportunity to win some swag. Free trips to tropical islands. You only have to pay for the bottom half of your attire ( there is a $125 annual stipend for shirts). I'm not going to mention pay because if you took the job then you thought the pay was fair. So why would you want to think it over? It does have all the potential in the world to be a like able job but for...

    Cons

You're salary but you can't work over forty hours the one or two weeks total a year you may have to, at least without permission and you may get it but....you're salary so why do you need permission. What they expect in a day COULD get done if the average work day were 12 hrs long. Of course it's all about time or priority management and once you think you have that down pat, here come the next emergency to screw THAT up. They are constantly rolling projects out to the field and piling it on aka flawless execution of chaos and inefficiency which is key to maintaining our credibility in eyes of the Lowes associates. Honestly, don't even start to execute a project until you haven't gotten an email about it for at least two weeks, then it's probably safe to execute it. Also, don't lose sight that each and every email is of the utmost importance and urgency. Resist the temptation to act on them and refer to the previous comment. In the meantime, try to get your 10-15 sales calls a week in (that was a joke, you may not be able to. But you are expected to). I've spoken to TM's at the annual sales meeting who are always covering vacant territories carrying out all of the projects in those stores also. It doesn't sound so bad on the surface until they realize just how much time it takes out of their stores. But don't worry, if you're one of them you'll get to work with and train the new TM who will probably be making more than you until they quit in six months. Not wanting to close on a sour note you will have ample opportunity to constantly try and use new software that will make your work life so much easier. Oh wait, nope, the software gets worse every year too. Sorry.

    Neutral Outlook
