Flexible Schedule and Excellent Company to work for!

Current Employee - Academic Tutor in Boston, MA
Current Employee - Academic Tutor in Boston, MA

I have been working at Varsity Tutors as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Working for Varsity Tutors has been an easy, convenient, and an overall great experience. Right form the start they set themselves apart from other tutoring companies by a thorough interviewing process to test your knowledge and tutoring style based on the subjects that you'd wish to tutor in. Though thorough, the interviewing process was very laid back and simple and I even had the chance to do my over Skye which was very convenient for me. They do all the work finding clients and providing all the needed information to get started on your first session; you have the choice to accept or decline the students based on your availability and interests. There are distance bonuses for students further away from your home which is nice if you accept a few students in the same area which make the further commute worth it. You are also compensated for any late cancellations or if a student does not show up and your supervisors will handle such instances. The supervisors are very approachable and helpful and reply on great communication between them and you regarding any needs or concerns you might be having with you or any students. Finally, tutoring is a very rewarding experience and the clients are smart and driven which makes work not feel like work.

    Cons

Working another full time job on top of tutoring has worked out for me since I have found a good routine. I tutor nights and weekends and if you have the same situation/work schedule, I found it's important to find that balance and be able to be flexible with student's changing schedule between extra curricular activities and sports and how that changes throughout the school year.
