Former Employee - Senior Systems Engineer in San Francisco, CA
Former Employee - Senior Systems Engineer in San Francisco, CA

I worked at Verizon full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great but declining benefits. Ability to work from home (depending on your location and business unit) was great. Many of the middle management guys are really nice people, but they have zero power to actually do anything.

    Cons

Incredibly greedy upper management. Benefits got steadily worse and more expensive year after year as company has engaged in union busting. Zero career growth or training opportunities were offered. Focus has switched from providing excellent service to billing hours. Terrible environment for bright people, especially women. Almost no internal promotion, yet many new employees were brought in from outside into higher bands.

Worst possible stance on Net Neutrality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your technical employees to keep their skills relevant. The current billable hours based system is set up to favor borderline fraudulent activity and busy work rather than solving customer issues in the best way possible.
