Former Employee - Account Manager - Indirect in Seattle, WA

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits.
    Good monthly discount on service.
    Long term employment.
    Better than average pay.

    Cons

POLOTICS! - The way to make it in this company is by knowing the right people. You can be performing at or above average compared to your peers. Suddenly there can be a management change and you are now looked on as a floater that doesn't want to advance within the company. Metrics and targets shift and you are forced out so that the new manager can bring in some hot shot that they know from outside the region.

Commission and quotas - There is no clearly defined way that quotas a calculated. I was explained quota calculations three different ways by three different managers. In the end your quota was increased if you were not performing at a year over year increase and decreased if your store(s) were performing better.

    Its actually just retail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The regions have too much atonomy to make and change policy as they see fit. Regional managers can completely change the entire region if they see fit, as long as the region is profitable that's all that matters.

There should be the same performace standards for all sales representatives across the entire country.

Stop putting profits above customer satisfaction. Renewal customers are important. Some customer do not want or need a jetpack, tablet, or smartphone.

    Neutral Outlook
