Like an abusive relationship with a rich person, the money was too good to leave

    I worked at Verizon Wireless

    Pros

The pay and benefits were very good and the product is the best.

    Cons

There is no work life balance. You can NOT request a day off, it has to be taken as a personal or vacation day. The District Manager has no true understanding of retail and demands control of everything (micro management is putting it mildly). He took credit for other people's ideas. It is a 100% popularity contest to move up, skill and talent mean nothing, it is all how you play the game. The sales expectations are unrealistic, especially for accessories. There are way too many meetings, many for not hitting the unrealistic targets. When better is possible, good is not enough. I felt like I was constantly kicked in the face for not hitting everything. Or if you were doing good, they would make up something else to point out failure. There was no positive reinforcement. . Good luck getting quality coaching. You will be told what to do and how to do it, no individual thought allowed. There are WAY TOO MANY MANAGERS!!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually do something about employee feedback you get in the surveys and when employees go to HR about a DM, don't just let the DM tell you there isn't a problem.
