Competitive benefits, decent pay if you can sell, but micro managed with intense scrutiny

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good compensation for top sales performers, good benefits, overtime available for those who want it(unless you are in mgmnt)

    Cons

Zero work life balance, although they preach that it is a "core value" and part of their "credo" there is really no balance in retail. Lots of overtime hours without compensation(salary plus) for mgmnt. Zero travel time during the holiday season to see your family. Intense micro managing from senior leadership. Zero recognition from senior leadership. They pick you apart and tear you down in person, but then they preach about recognition on the conference calls. Very difficult to hold people accountable without a detailed and documented timeline of events.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff up so when people leave and others are sick it doesnt burn out the entire team covering gaps. Have people that are designated to fill in when people are out sick or on vacation. Single parent homes are very tough in any work schedule, but even moreso in retail, and even more so again during the holidays. Hire temps, greeters, etc. Allow management to have a set schedule. Also, promote more cross channel training, more than just the "hey you should go and do a ride along..." and encourage people to want to move around. Pay managers for overtime.
