I worked at W.W. Williams full-time (More than 10 years)

Good pay, but you have to suffer a lot of BS to get to the top of the pay scale. It was 2 years between raises and during the last contract they got it to 3 years. That's a long time to wait between raises. They also give out cost of living raises every year. The last one was .5% which comes out to pennies. I really felt appreciated after I got my .5% after the location I worked for had a record profit year. Thanks guys. Employee appreciation day is usually a great event too. As long as you work during the day. I guess they don't appreciate the workers that work the night shifts. It did look like all the people during the day had fun based on the pictures that were posted on the company interweb. The company does train its people if you have the patience to wait out the time it takes be selected to get the training. If you are a parts changer and you work very fast you will excel here. They may even make you president of the company. They do have a decent shop to work in, its one of the nicest in town and its clean. The benefits are decent. Not great but not the worst out there. Expect some issues with benefits like tool replacement. Usually they like to drag their feet when it comes to reimbursement of funds. A lot of the people you will be in direct contact with are great people and are very friendly. The parts manager was a riot if he had been drinking that day.

From the perspective of a technician you can only grow so far in this company, unless you are a CHOSEN one or the family of someone higher up on the food chain. A lot of favoritism and good buddy deals go on as far as raises and promotions are concerned. Hard work will get you disappointment. If you do manage to grow some in your career it may only be in a direction they let you go and not one that you choose for yourself. The upper management feel that beating people (verbally) will motivate them. There are monthly meetings just to tell the rank and file how bad they suck.. I don't mean they yell and scream, they are civil. It always just seemed like it was all bad and never anything good. The middle management feel that by acting as the upper management and further beating their people they will be even more motivated to work hard. God help you if they find out there is a certain job you don't really care for doing. You will somehow get to do them all. If that's not enough they will beat you over the head with numbers that you don't have any control over. Be prepared for your schedule to change at least every two years. Usually not for the better either. Like shift change from 1st to 3rd. or some weird mid shift because they came up with a pie chart that said it would be better for you to work some off the wall shift. In a nutshell the secret to working here is if you find something that you enjoy about it. Keep it to yourself because if the managers find out about it they will take it away from you.

    Advice to Management

Take a long hard look at what is going on.
