Its strength is in its core people, its weakness is its lack of information and process controls.

Former Employee - IT Manager in Pittsburgh, PA

I worked at WESCO International full-time for more than 10 years

Great learning experience, good people to work with. Some promotion opportunities if you're the right person with the right attitude and willing to work 50+ hours each week to get there.

Accountability depends on department. Some departments are not given a strong direction, and hence not held accountable for their responsibilities. Subsidiaries are not brought into line with the rest of the business units, meaning multiple processes for the same thing and many misunderstandings. This also creates an atmosphere of infighting between the operating units. IT is run as shoestring as possible to survive, not enough manpower or money is regularly invested in new technology. Many projects get started, implemented, then abandoned.

For many positions, there is little to no formal training. This leads to many mistakes, confused staff, and rework.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really invest in BI reporting, workflow/task automation, and people. Stop spending dollars to chase pennies. Work the One Wesco mantra into every facet of your operation. Improve the quality of data being captured on customers, products, and sales so that you can make real informed business decisions.

Unify your processes across the board and bring back the idea of product management/managers who have the expertise and incentive to own their respective lines from purchase to sale. And give them the tools to do it effectively.
