Former Employee - Certified Pharmacy Technician in Pittsburgh, PA

I worked at Walgreens full-time (more than a year)

Good coworkers, great manager, learned so much, if you worked hard there was definitely room for advancement. I learned so much working in the pharmacy about numerous medications and also learned how to compound. Learned how to deal with insurance and different healthcare providers. It was a great learning experience and my training was excellent. I applied so much of what I learned to school as well as future employment opportunities after I left. There was opportunities for overtime which was time and a half.

I learned so much but the pay and the benefits were awful. there is no paid time off or sick leave unless you are there for a full year and then you earn FIVE days!!!! FIVE!!! the pay is really not reasonable unless you are a college student or have another means of income but that being said there were considerable raises and if you have a good manager that can pull some strings and put in the effort your pay rate can increase you have to be hard working and ask though. The location of my pharmacy was very disheartening sometimes. Patients could be brutally mean and you would get screamed at multiple times a day even for issues that are completely out of the pharmacies control. It changed my outlook now when i get prescriptions filled and i have realized the process is not as simple as the customers and patients believe it to be.
