I worked at Weather Decision Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The employees are really great for the most part. You become like a family and really get to know people well.

    Cons

Management is awful! They don't care about their employees. They have the worst-kept big secrets. There is absolutely no transparency despite their efforts to make it look like they do. They pay some of the lowest salaries in the industry and when you ask for more, they tell you that you are on par with others in the company, and then act shocked when you leave for a better paying job. They also ask that you keep salaries private (among some other very odd and sketchy policies), and you are not allowed to discuss it with your supervisor, therefore your supervisor is never able to properly evaluate you and give you a salary you deserve. A meteorologist and a CS person doing the same job will not be paid the same, the CS person will get several to tens of thousands more dollars per year. Evaluation are a joke and not taken seriously because the executives who don't deal with you day to day decide raises, despite "suggestions" from the direct supervisors. When they need a project done they sometimes offer the devs some sort of bonus to get it done on time, requiring excessive hours for weeks on end, yet fail to pay the bonus on time. They claim to be family friendly, but they have some pretty bizarre policies and it doesn't show with how they have treated past employees. The list goes on and on... just stay away!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retain your employees by trying to make them happy and paying them a fair market salary... not a "meteorology salary" when they are doing things that are really outside meteorology.
