    Pros

IF you're lucky enough to get a good direct report in a good niche group you will have a support team and work with some good people. You get exposed to several different industries because clients are small and audits are completed quickly. You take on responsibility faster (could be a negative for some people not comfortable with progressing at a faster pace). The upside compared to Big 4 is that the hours are lower (also comes with a lower salary). Overall the people are pleasant.

    Cons

The salary is below comparables. The acquisition of several offices has resulted in politics and changes to the firm culture. No more work life balance. High billable hours compared to pay. The admin and many other departments have health issues which contributes to really high health insurance costs and bad benefits offered. Retirement plan has a long vesting schedule and low match. Pay raises are minimal and bonuses are non existent.

On the flip side of seeing a lot of different industries, firm clients are small, you will get virtually no SEC experience. Little to no exposure to complex audit areas such as impairment of goodwill, swaps / hedges, etc. that a lot of industry positions want to see. The firm is top heavy, and there is no room for promotion to partner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating the employees as the most valuable firm asset and care more about the people than partner profits.
