    I have been working at Weigel's full-time

    Pros

    Tight relationship with coworkers because of the small size of stores. Flexible with schedule as long as you have a decent manager. Hurting for people so bad you basically have to be totally worthless to get fired. Cashier, stock, good service positions OKAY as a first time job.

    Cons

    Entry level pay is only 25¢ above federal minimum wage. Have to be promoted for raises. Manager (salary) and assistant manager positions require 65+ hours a week, minimum. Relief managers only get 25¢ more an hour in pay than cashiers and stockers make with twice the responsibility. Only store managers and assistant managers get any commission pay, which varies so much from store to store that there is basically no company standard. Ever growing list of things to be responsible for without any increase in pay to compensate. Horrible turn over rate which negatively affects all other employees at a store. Long hours ranging out to a contractually obligated 11 hour shift 5 days a week. No lunch break. No holiday pay except for a small bonus if you actually work on Christmas day. The stores stay open through all holidays and weather events. No paid sick or personal days. Only managers get a paid vacation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Offer relief managers a small cut off commission. Give all 12+ month employees a 25¢ raise every year to reduce turnover and training costs. All employees deserve some paid personal/sick days, even if they don't qualify for vacation as well as unpaid time during their shift to step away and enjoy a break. And for God's sake, the world isn't going to call apart if you close for one or two days a year.
