    I worked at WellPoint full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Employer matches employee contributions to 401Ks, tuition reimbursement, bonus incentive programs for meeting goals, EAP/FLP, ergonomic workstations, some work at home opportunities available. Better rhan average wages. Some locations offer on-site gyms.

    Cons

    Pressure to maintain high number of case reviews with extreme accuracy; monthly audits, team leads work at home made it difficult to receive timely assistance, reviews sent to physicians completed by non medical "analysts" which somethimes made case closure continuity of decision analysis difficult to track. Overseas reviews consistantly not done on a timely basis resulting in late payments/fines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The decision to outsouese claims review to the Philippines becauae wages are cheaper and lay off hundreda of nurses stateside to increase profit margins turned out to be penny-wise but pound foolish, as the amounts of the fines on some of the cases doubled the billed amount to be paid on many of them. Stricter oversight needed to push aged claims to be reviewed on a more timely basis either there or stateside.
