I worked at Werner Enterprises full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fast paced environment, very competitive. You are quickly given a lot of responsibility, and the freedom to make your own decisions.

    Cons

The time off policy is arcane. You get 6 days your first year, then move up to 10 days for the next three years. There are no sick days or personal days. Also, you have to work one saturday a month. I wasn't told this until after I'd already strarted working there. The work days are also 10 hours long by schedule, but I worked an extra 1-2 hours every night. Almost everybody stayed late, or took their laptop home with them and worked extra from home. Those who didn't were fired in pretty short order. Senior management had highly unrealistic expectations, and there simply wasn't enough time in the day to complete all of the work that was piled on you. When you combine the late nights, and the extra day every month, I averaged about 60 hours a week. The pay would have been fair for a standard 40-45 hour workweek, but this simply wasn't the case. Drivers were nickle and dimed at every corner, which was hard to watch, since they are the backbone of the company. Within the office, there were several abrasive personalities. I don't think this is because the staff was particularly mean, but rather because they were all very stressed and overworked.
