I have been working at West Texas A&M University full-time (More than 5 years)
Good health care benefits, beautiful campus facilities, good I.T. support, highly-reputable university. Tuition assistance for full-time staff. Great climate, within minutes of fantastic Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
Pay at a state-university may not be as good as the private sector, depending upon the field. Being part of the A&M system means a second level of decision-makers can create stress and bring changes that local administrators may not particularly love.
Advice to Management
Stop trying to be the cheapest university in the country, and pay to get and keep top flight employees. Learn to release employees that do not produce and reward those who do.
