    I worked at Western Digital

Good pay, friendly and smart people, and a good place to start a career. Some of the products are a lot of fun to work on. Since the company runs so lean, there are great opportunities to be recognized.

The reality of what goes on in this company-- the real corporate culture-- is nowhere near the values they try to promote. Management & executive leadership treat employees disrespectfully, low-quality products are shipped before they're ready so that they can bring in revenue, and promotions are given to unqualified leaders based on friendships instead of experience or ability.

It's really too bad. There are so many great people that work here, but they're trapped under poor leadership and abusive executives. And the longer they continue to promote like-minded bullies, the more talented people will find somewhere else to work where they're recognized for how great they are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Identify your superstars, push them to the forefront and give them opportunities to shine with the right support and tools to succeed.

When you conduct surveys asking about corporate culture, really listen to what your employees are saying-- whether it's about the company morale as a whole or a specific leader of one department.

Your people are what make up your company. If they're telling you that they're unhappy, do what it takes to make it right. That's how you create true loyalty and they're counting on you.
