If you have a passion for the industry, you will work really hard to see a student progress. And it also taught me to appreciate my current job every single day.
Leadership Ethics No perks (whatsoever) Horrible work/life balance Unrealistic goals that you must hit, and if you don't, you will be terminated--which equals absolutely ZERO job security. First I must address that this is not a "bitter" post. I was not fired from Westwood, I resigned. I have no ill feelings toward the place, I am simply telling the truth. If you are a person that holds your work ethic at a certain standard, and you believe in being aligned with a school that believes in education, then Westwood is not for you. The Chicago campus is going to close any day now--they are holding on by strings. I can't speak for the other campus, but I am willing to bet they are too. Admissions is a hungry immoral department that only focus is to get some impoverished, clueless, and often times, mentally disadvantaged person to sign on the line. The "Program Chairs" just sit around all day and harass students by calling them to ask them why they missed class. Instructors are bullied into giving students passing grades from Program Chairs so that they don't mess their numbers up. Program Chairs could care about actually making sure their students are learning something and gossip all day. Financial Aid is gossip town, and share the student's information throughout, regardless of FERPA or any other confidentiality clause. Career Services harasses and begs students to get a job basically all day. They call employers and beg them to hire their graduates -- who are absolutely unknowingly incapable of working in a REAL corporate environment. The staff treats the students like children, literally. With poorly decorated campuses equivalent to elementary schools and the who staff caters to treating them as children so that they won't drop out, and they lose their beloved money. Leadership uses scare tactics to hold each department to ridiculous and unattainable metrics--calculated to make sure they don't have to give raises (for example, on the yearly review, the scale is listed as 5-Consistently Exceeds Expectations, 4-Frequently Exceeds Expectations, 3-Successfully Meets All Expectations, Inconsistently Meets Expectations with Improvement Desired, 1-Fails to Meet Expectations Performance is Unsatisfactory). Any one can see that 3-5 means the exact same thing, which will automatically puts all employees at a 2--if they are not hitting ALL goals. Which brings me to the workload. RIDICULOUS. You have to take on so many large projects, which would take me all day to list. But at any given time, you could be working on 15-20 large and time sensitive projects. Westwood's morals are ridiculous and as someone that has worked there, I'd be happy to have coffee with Lisa Madigan. Just saying.
